ABOUT

DANCE QUEST is an exciting and innovative dance program for children in Early Learning environments

The program offers a range of styles and skills including dance, drama, yoga, technique, musicality and teamwork, in a very supportive and creative atmosphere. It has been specifically tailored in conjunction with the EYLF, for both boys and girls between the ages of 2-6 years.

Dance Quest classes are fun, modern and educational. We learn about other cultures, road safety, healthy eating, distant lands and more, through our movement stories. The children love using their voice to express themselves in the supportive atmosphere we create.

We feel Dance Quest is a great addition to any childs creative learning curriculum.

Why Us

At Dance Quest we have worked closely with Early Years Educators to devise a preschool program that is aimed at enhancing your coverage of all curriculum areas and learning outcomes. We aim to support children’s development in a range of areas as well as building their confidence and self-esteem.

“My passion for performing equally matches my passion for teaching.I started as a dance teacher at my local dance school when I was a teenager over 12 years ago. I love that I am able to inspire a love of dance and movement in my students, the same way they inspire me through the energy and enthusiasm they bring to the class. Dance is a universal language that I believe is an important creative outlet for all children, especially aged 2 – 6yrs.”

Who are our ?

Miss Courtney is our founder and primary teacher and has been in the industry for over 20 years. Her first time on stage was at the age of 4, and she has successfully forged her career as a professional dancer. During her early years, Courtney had extraordinary roles dancing alongside Lisa McCune and Bert Newton as Louisa Von Trapp in the production Sound of Music. Followed by further success travelling with the Queensland Ballet as Alice in the production Alice in Wonderland, all of which received outstanding reviews praising Courtney’s performance. Courtney has also had success globally between the UK, New Zealand and Australia, also appearing on So You Think You Can Dance. Highlighting her career, Courtney performed alongside Kanye West as a dancer during his national tour of Australia in 2012. Courtney loves to introduce the world of dance to children with a warm personality and a smile that is truly infectious.

Miss Courtney is a qualified dance instructor and all of our teachers hold current, clear working with children checks.

Learning

Our class sizes are small to allow teachers to build strong relationships with the children as individuals, and for the children to learn to respect each other’s contributions. They also learn to celebrate individual and group achievements. By getting to know the children this way, we are able to support them in building confidence and in expressing their individual needs and skills. Our classes provide opportunities for children to show who they are as they develop their own jumps and moves and discuss their opinions on choreography and music with their teachers. Our drama and movement activities allow children to share experiences and to explore situations they are familiar with. We provide opportunities for them to learn from others and to work through situations or emotions that they are unfamiliar with or confused by. Developing performances allows children to grow in confidence while still feeling supported in the environment and in their relationships with both peers and teachers.

Through participating in our classes children develop cooperation and teamwork skills, whilst learning to appreciate each other’s strengths, and how they can help each other to develop. Our dances and movement stories encourage children to think about issues that affect them and their environments, such as littering or protecting animals. We use a range of music and dance styles to encourage children to explore diversity and appreciate a range of cultures.

As you would expect, our classes support children in developing a range of physical skills including balance, movement, spacial awareness, co@ordination and rhythm. However, the benefits don’t stop there. Our teachers work with the children to learn how to look after their bodies and prepare for exercise, and to think about the different aspects of keeping our bodies healthy. Our classes also support children’s emotional wellbeing and social development. The supportive atmosphere fostered by our teachers and the structure in the sessions, develops confidence in group situations. The calming and concentration skills taught in our warm ups and cool downs encourage children to relax and develop control of their emotions.

Our classes encourage children to develop focus and concentration skills as they learn, dance, and work together on the movement journeys. The children develop responsibility as they take turns to lead lines and demonstrate movements to their peers. They are involved in discussing the movements used, and the issues learned in our movement stories, as well as discussing music and choreography. This develops ownership and learning how to critique, expand, refine and develop their work. They are completely involved in the sessions from rehearsal to performance.

One important aspect of our classes is developing children’s speaking and listening skills. They learn this by following instructions from our teachers, as well as listening to each other as they develop and discuss their movement and what they have learned. Children are also encouraged to use expressive language to share their opinions about their work.

As well as supporting Learning Outcomes across all five areas, our program also supports your centre in developing the following areas of the National Quality Framework:

  • Educational program and practice
  • Children’s health and safety
  • Relationships with children
  • Collaborative partnerships with families and communities.
